What is Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouts is a year-round program for children in grades K-5th. The program offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness.

Prepared... For Life

Cub Scouts and their families enjoy participating in age-appropriate activities that include camping, service projects, life skills, games, and other fun opportunities that guide children through Cub Scouting’s core values and gives them a sense of personal achievement.

Do Your Best!

Parents, leaders, and friends play an active role in the program as they encourage youth to live by the Cub Scout Motto: “Do Your Best!”

Our active pack meets 2-3 times each month. We go camping in the fall and spring.  In the summer, we attend summer camp.  Our schedule varies each year, but a few traditional favorite activities include outdoor experiences, building then racing pinewood derby cars, the annual blue and gold banquet... and more!

Additional Information

Where can I learn more about scouting in the National Capitol area?

Pack 1140 is in the National Capitol Area Council.  Their website has additional information abour regional scouting opportunities. They also host a new family booklet that explains more about the Cub Scouting program.

Our Cub Scouts go on to join local troops in the area. Troop 1140 also meets at Kirkwood.

What kind of commitment does scouting in Pack 1140 require?

We understand families have busy schedules. Pack 1140 usually has a monthly pack meeting for all ages, a monthly den meeting for all the scouts in one or two grade levels, and often a monthly special event such as a campout, service project, or outing. Annual dues vary from year to year but are typically about $230 per scout, which includes activity materials, t-shirt, campouts, and most other activities (other than summer camp); scholarships and fundraising opportunities exist to defray this cost. Most scouts decide to obtain a uniform. We welcome parental involvement for year round activities at all grade levels; the youngest cubs -- Lions & Tigers -- need a caring adult partner to attend all events with them.
